How to Book the Cheapest Flight Possible

Read our tips on how to find the cheapest flights anywhere in the world.

1. Be Flexible

Be flexible with where and when to go.  Pick your destination and dates but have flexibility on “when” to travel. Always ensure that you search more than one date. Usually, shifting the dates by even 1 day can cut the price in half.

2. Avoid peak travel months

Certain destinations will be more expensive around popular festivals like St. Patrick’s Day or Chinese New Year. In North America and Europe, the cheapest time of year to fly is usually January through mid-May & September through early December. The most expensive time to fly is usually mid-June through mid-August, Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

3. Know the best time to book cheap flights

It is usually recommended to book flights when you see a great fare 1-3 months in advance for domestic flights and 2-8 months in advance for international flights. Prices tend to jump in the last month or two before departure, so you don’t want to cut it too close. On the other hand, if you book too early and settle for a not-great fare, you’re missing out on potential future sales.

4. Travel on the cheapest days

Do you know there are certain days which are the cheapest to travel? Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday are the cheapest days to travel. Friday and Sunday are usually the most expensive days.

5. Use the best tools to search for flights

Some nice tools to search for flights are Google Flights, Momondo, Hotwire, Skyscanner providing good rates on tickets.

6. Act fast

Once you find a good fare, it’s hard to say how long it will last. The rule of thumb is that the better the fare, the shorter it will last. Don’t expect great fares to last longer than a few days. So act fast and get your booking done at the earliest.
